Program Management is the process of managing multiple ongoing inter-dependent projects. An example would be that of designing, manufacturing, product deliveries (such as an aircraft, test programs, deployments, simulators(trainers), Data Management and providing support infrastructure for a Defense Program with multiple vendors. This may require managing multiple contracts and agreements in support of the main objective. In an organization or enterprise, Program Management also reflects the emphasis on coordinating and prioritizing resources across projects, departments, and entities to ensure that resource contention is managed from a global focus and that all program objectives are met. (e.g. deliveries, deployments, logistics, test objectives, documentation, configuration control)
Project Management is the discipline of organizing and managing resources (e.g. people, contractors, dollars, materials) in such a way that the project is completed within a defined scope, quality level, time of performance constraint and cost constraints. A project is a temporary and one-time endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service, which brings about beneficial change or added value.
Business Process Development and Documentation is also an emerging company need especially with the complexity of today's IT systems, the implementation of enterprise wide systems and the need to meet Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. While this discipline has always been a good idea, time and maintenance resource constraints in the past have made this a spotty uncoordinated area in many companies.
